Professional Interview Skills Development
Build confidence and technique through focused, practical journalism training
Getting honest answers from people isn't something you learn overnight. We've spent years working with journalists across Malaysia who needed more than theory—they needed real techniques that actually work when someone's dodging questions or when you're racing against deadline pressure. This program grew from those conversations and challenges.
What You'll Actually Learn
We don't waste time on abstract concepts. Every session focuses on situations you'll face—difficult sources, tight deadlines, sensitive topics. You'll practice questioning techniques that feel natural but get results.
The program runs over six months starting February 2026. Classes meet twice weekly, with additional practice sessions you can attend when your schedule allows. Some weeks you'll interview professionals from different fields. Other weeks you'll work on specific challenging scenarios.
- Question construction that prompts detailed responses rather than yes/no answers
- Reading body language and adjusting your approach mid-conversation
- Managing difficult interviews when subjects become defensive or evasive
- Building rapport quickly with sources from varied backgrounds
- Ethical considerations when pursuing sensitive stories
- Recording and note-taking methods that don't interrupt conversation flow

How We Actually Work With You
Theory only gets you so far. Most of what makes a good interviewer comes from practice and honest feedback. That's why every session includes live practice—sometimes with professionals who've agreed to be interviewed, sometimes with your peers playing difficult sources.
Between formal sessions, you'll have access to mentors who've worked in Malaysian newsrooms for years. They've dealt with the same challenges you're facing now. And here's something we learned early on: people develop interview styles differently. What works brilliantly for one journalist might feel awkward for another.
Real-Time Feedback
Review your practice interviews immediately while the experience is fresh, identifying specific moments to adjust
Diverse Practice Scenarios
Work with sources from business, government, community sectors—each bringing different communication styles
Flexible Pacing
Some modules you'll move through quickly. Others need more time. We adjust based on where you need development
Continued Development
After the program ends, you can still reach out with questions as situations come up in your work
